Over the years I have designed and made my own costumes for my own personal use and have started to make some for other dancers. It is time consuming but a labor of love. I feel sewing is becoming a lost art and that is showing when we are losing fabric stores like Hancock Fabrics several years ago and now Joann Fabrics. It has also been harder and harder to find good quality fabric and trim. Luckily there are thrift stores or online resellers to find some fabulous unwanted garments and recreate them into something I desire. In the 1st picture with Deb, she made her own, my dress was bought at a thrift store and repurposed, same with the 2nd picture and the group of 3 with Arlem and Deanna. I feel like I am saving the environment by repurposing these once high end style dresses and jackets into something that fits me for my needs such as a belly dance costume. I have been asked in the past several times to have a costume workshop so here it is.

Of course you can always buy your costumes. I will tell you of all of the costumes I have purchased even when I have given my measurements I still had to make some sort of modifications to all but one so far.

2304 S 135th Ave

what to expect:

Bring your own costume project. Let me know if you need help to get started on one.

I am there to help but this is your project, you may not get done but at least you can get started, get advice and hang out with your dance friends.

I will bring a sewing machine, needles, thread, gems and glue or bring your own. I do have some scissors to share.

Tables will be set up for your project. There is room for 13.

Please register by April 30th.

I can bring snacks or we can do a potluck thing. I think we have one vegetarian in the group.

Project Ideas:

Thrift Store Fashion: I do have some thrift store dresses that I have been collecting that are available for purchase, some heavily beaded and some simple so you can add your own. If you want to look through them I will bring them Wednesdays so you can get some ideas, inspirations or purchase one ahead of time. First come first serve.

Belt and bra. I have a pattern for a belt you can use to cut out for you. You will need your own fabric and denim material.

If you want to make a bra, I can send you to youtube videos to construct your own. Or you can bring your own bra and you can follow along. You will need a bra with a stiff foam cup that fits you.

Or you can make a simple top. This could be made out of your thrift store fashion.

The "One Hour" costume.  You will need stretch fabric.  Information will be sent out if you choose this option.

There are no refunds for workshops.

Thank you for supporting my small business.
